A 120-Metre Beach with a Giant Disco Ball
Gitano Beach occupies a 120-metre strip of sand in the southern Hotel Zone. Cushioned sunbeds, cabanas and bamboo benches create several places to sit before dancing. Black-and-white striped tipis provide shade, while handcrafted textiles and natural materials define the lounge areas. A giant disco ball is the main visual marker over the beach setup. The palapa contains an open-fire kitchen with a wood-burning oven, grill and comal. The venue sits beside Casa Gitano and near the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve.
Open-Fire Mexican Cooking and Mezcal Cocktails
Mera Room pairs its music programme with Gitano Beach’s dinner and cocktail service. Chef Alexandros Gkoutsi’s cooking combines Mexican dishes with Mediterranean touches. The standing menu includes cochinita pibil tacos with habanero and salsa verde at 320 MXN, a Baja California hamachi tostada at 380 MXN and aguachile at 425 MXN. The drinks programme centres on mezcal cocktails. Kisses in the Car mixes mezcal, rum, passion fruit and tangerine habanero, while Gipsy Disco 75 combines vodka, rosé prosecco, elderflower and lime. A Venue Already Tuned to Sunset DJs
Gitano Beach opened in February 2021 and now operates beside the Casa Gitano hotel. Its regular music programme runs from daytime lounging toward dancing around sunset. On the usual weekly schedule, DJs play from 1 PM from Thursday through Sunday. The venue’s established sound covers deep house, tropical house, nu-disco, indie dance and melodic house. Recurring sessions include Full Moon Rising, Gypsy Disco, Sunset Fiesta and Las Gitanas. MERA ROOM uses that beach-party setting for its own sunset-to-late-night programme.
