Tulum beach clubs can mean very different things.
Some are quiet places to get a bed, swim and have lunch. Others start with lunch and turn into a party by mid-afternoon. A few are closer to resorts, where a day pass also gives you access to a pool and other hotel facilities.
The price structure changes just as much. One beach club might have no minimum spend at all, another asks you to commit a certain amount toward food and drinks, while places such as Taboo and Tantra use a cover where only part of what you pay becomes consumption credit.
That is why we would not choose purely by which name you have seen most on Instagram.
Use the comparison below to look at minimum spend, day-pass price, pool access, music, opening hours and the kind of crowd, then choose based on the day you actually want.

Kanan Beachclub
Kanan is a good middle ground if you want a proper beach club without committing to a large minimum spend before you sit down.
The adults-only property has beach beds, cabanas, a pool and the wooden architecture Kanan is known for, with food and drinks available throughout the day. There are DJs on selected dates, but a normal day is much more relaxed than Taboo or Tantra.
Regular access currently has no minimum consumption, although special events can have their own ticket or cover.

Umi is one of the better options when you want to spend the day somewhere without feeling that you need to keep ordering just to reach a minimum.
It is adults-only, with an infinity pool, beach beds, cabanas, restaurant and a generally calmer atmosphere on normal days. Selected events bring DJs and a much busier crowd, so check the calendar before choosing your date.
There is currently no minimum spend for regular beach-club access, while separately programmed events may require a ticket.

La Zebra is a beachfront hotel and beach club at Km 8.2 in the Hotel Zone, known for Mexican coastal food, day beds and a more relaxed social atmosphere than Tulum’s party-focused clubs.
A standard day bed costs around MX$1,400 per person, with MX$1,300 returned as food-and-drink credit. The package also includes a sunbed, towel, parking and access to hotel facilities, making it a straightforward option if you want to spend most of the day on the beach.
The main restaurant focuses on Mexican coastal cooking, with ceviche, handmade tacos and seafood, while La Zebra Mediterranean adds pizza, fresh pasta and mezze. Sundays are the most distinctive day to visit, with a regular live salsa night by the beach, while weekends generally bring more live music and social activity.
Best for: Families, couples, Mexican food, Sunday salsa and a relaxed beach day with a clear food-and-drink credit.

Gitano Beach is on the southern stretch of the Hotel Zone, close to Sian Ka'an.
The day starts fairly easily with beds, cabanas, lunch and mezcal cocktails, with the energy increasing later in the week. Gitano currently runs DJ sessions from Thursday through Sunday and weekend beach BBQs.
Our current venue information lists a MX$1,000 per-person minimum consumption on regular days, with separate covers possible for special events.

Tulumania is an oceanfront beach club at Km 7.5 of the Hotel Zone, occupying the former Akiin property. It combines daybeds, a restaurant, cocktail bar, pool and sports bar, with DJs and changing events throughout the week.
The music leans toward house, tech house, deep house, organic house and Afro-house, with regular Saturday DJs, Sunday Beach Sessions and selected Tu Brunch dates. Some events continue beyond the normal beach-club hours, so it is worth checking the calendar if music is the main reason for visiting.
Unlike many Hotel Zone beach clubs, general access does not normally require a cover or compulsory minimum spend. You can walk in and pay for what you order. During high season, reserved daybeds are around MX$2,000 in food-and-drink consumption, fully redeemable against your bill.
Best for: Groups, Sunday music, and anyone who wants a beach club without a large mandatory spend.
Three beach clubs we would not plan around right now
Vagalume
Vagalume is currently closed with no confirmed reopening date, so ignore older guides that still include it among Tulum's active beach clubs.
Bagatelle
Bagatelle is also currently closed for the low season. It operates seasonally, so it may return as high season approaches, but we would not build a booking around it until the venue confirms reopening.
Papaya Playa Project
Papaya Playa Project is still a well-known name, particularly for specific music events, but it is not one of our choice for a beach-club day right now.
If there is a particular event you want to attend, that is a different decision. For a normal day on the sand, we think there are stronger options elsewhere on the beach road.

That last part matters. A venue that is perfect for a quiet Tuesday can be a completely different place on Saturday afternoon.
Find the right beach club
The best beach club in Tulum depends much more on what kind of day you want than which venue has the biggest name.
Choose the party before choosing Taboo. Choose the pool before choosing Umi. Choose the family day before choosing La Zebra. And if all you really want is to swim and lie on the sand, remember that you do not need a beach club at all.

A regular beach-club day can range from no minimum spend to MX$2,000 or more per person, depending on the venue, seating and date. Larger cabanas and VIP areas can cost considerably more.
