Public healthcare services in Tulum have also been changing as facilities are incorporated into the IMSS-Bienestar system, so the official name or administration of the hospital may change over time.
Non-Emergency Medical Care
If you are feeling unwell but it is not an emergency, pharmacy-based doctor's offices are a common option in Mexico.
Chains such as Farmacias Similares have locations where you can often see a doctor for a basic consultation before purchasing any prescribed medication.
Consultation availability and pricing can vary by branch but can be as cheap as 80 MXN pesos.The Farmacias Similares app can also be used to find nearby branches and check available services.
This can be useful for minor issues such as:

stomach problems;
mild infections;
minor skin issues; or

Some doctors may speak English, but this should not be assumed.

If possible, have your accommodation address or live map location available when calling for help. Tulum addresses can sometimes be difficult to describe using street names alone.
What to Have Ready When Calling Emergency Services
Try to give the operator the most useful information first.
Tell them:
what happened;
whether anybody is injured;
your location;
the name of your hotel, villa, restaurant or nearby landmark;
how many people need assistance; and
a phone number where they can reach you.
If you are staying in a villa or Airbnb, save its Google Maps pin or exact location before you need it.
This can be much easier than trying to explain an unfamiliar address during an emergency.
Travel Insurance and Medical Care
It is worth travelling to Tulum with insurance that includes medical treatment.
Private medical treatment in Mexico can become expensive, particularly if you require hospital admission, scans, specialist care or medical evacuation.
Keep a copy of your insurance details somewhere accessible on your phone and, when practical, contact your insurer as soon as possible after receiving urgent treatment.
